Hey Everyone!!!
I am excited to be writing my first official post on here & that all of you have made it here to learn about Holistic Health. There are so many aspects that go into Holistic Health it's hard to find where to start. So going to the base of what makes up Holistic Health is where I will start.
Holistic Health
There are five main aspects of Holistic Health; Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual & Mental. When talking about Holistic Health we go beyond just the physical that normal everyday doctors deal with. We look at emotional, spiritual, social, mental & intellectual aspects of a person. Let's face it, in the society we live in now, these aspects effect us more often than the physical. With that being said it's hard to find somewhere to turn to for help. Holistic Health gives us answers & remedies that are not only helpful & healing but also all natural.
Western Medicine breaks the body down into individual systems instead of looking at the person as a whole body & mind that it actually is. Supporting & viewing the body as the incredible system it is, is how we achieve optimal wellness in body, mind & spiritual sense. This is why Holistic Health is so important.
Alternative Healthcare Practices that are in the realm of Holistic Health include:
- Nutrition
- Therapy
- Chiropractic
- Reiki energy work
- Herbalism
- Personal Training
- Massage
- Acupuncture
- Yoga/Meditation
- Physical Therapy
For a truly healthy and fulfilling way of living. People that combine all these therapies for a deeper way of healing are much more likely to achieve that goal.
Why is Holistic Health Important?
To say Holistic Health is important is an understatement. Even though people now are living longer they are also living with extremely high levels of stress and fatigue. They are consuming nutrient depleted foods and are exposed to hundreds of possibly harmful chemicals daily in the air, water, cleaning & personal care products.
After the year we have all had to go through with this COVID virus. We know all too well how many people are living with a chronic illness or undiagnosed symptoms. The modern-day medicine has failed them and its time to turn to holistic health for answers & solutions.
Physical
Physical Health is what automatically comes to everyones mind when they hear the word health. This is because the body shows us symptoms and is easier to track what is happening and where from. When is comes to supporting your physical health there are a few key practices that everyone can benefit from including:
- Exercise for 30 minutes minimum per day
- Eat nutrient-dense foods
- Sleep 8 hours per night
- Maintain balanced blood sugar levels
- Do not smoke & avoid excess alcohol consumption
- Avoid processed foods that are extremely inflammatory and increase the risk of chronic disease.
Emotional
Emotional health is extremely overlooked but is just as important as our physical health. Especially because if we don't prioritize our emotional health it can start to effect our physical health. Some ways to support your emotional health are:
- Keep a journal to record your thoughts and feelings.
- Seek out Therapy when needed.
- Practice mindfulness and stress reduction methods.
Social
Research over the years has shown people that are social and connected with friends and family highly benefit & are more happy. Religion for a lot of people is what gives them this happiness and feeling included/needed or supported, no matter what the religion may be. Ways to support your social health:
- Get involved in your local community, even if you don't like church or volunteering in neighborhood activities you can talk to other parents at your kids school or after school programs. There are plenty of opportunities.
- Make time for in-person connection. Even though we have the power of technology it is nothing like what in person connection can give us.
- Set boundaries with the people in your life that increase your stress level or have toxic energy. It may not always be easy but it is what is best for you.
Spiritual
Spiritual doesn't always have to mean religion. Yours spiritual health is actually how you connect with your inner soul and the world around you. Ways you can support your spiritual health:
- Meditate even if it just for a few minutes each day.
- Spend time in nature.
- If you are religious, then take time to practice your faith. Alternative religions count as well such as Wicca. It's your faith not everyone else's.
Mental
Mental health is the last aspect of Holistic Health but definitely not the least important. Sometimes confused with emotional health but very different, emotional health is your everyday mood and mental is overall mental state that effects our brain function. Ways to support your mental health:
- Keep mind active by learning new things
- Avoid excessive drinking, smoking or drugs
- Consumes nutrient dense foods
- Improve your gut health
